Uzhhorod Castle

After meeting the rest of the GSE team and RC members for wine tasting at a local winery, Alisa took me for another tour of Uzhhorod, which include a walk through the castle (we were unable to see inside on our first tour of the city).
Uzhhorod Castle, once a wooden fort, has gone through several "renovations" and was fortified into a castle that was placed under siege several times, but never taken. As the region changed hands several times, as did the castle's kings and occupants.
The castle served as a military stronghold, a seminary, and today houses several museums displaying the castles history, Transcarpathian culture, wildlife, and religion. Displays included books from the 1600's, suits of armor, traditional Transcarpathian clothing and musicahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzhhorod_Castlel instruments, artifacts from battles and world wars I and II. We even toured what used to be the dungeon.
