They have saying in Ukraine; translated it is: 'If your baby sleeps through the night at a young age he will make a good fire man'. In Ukraine firefighters do not enjoy the same positive public image as we do in North America. The peception is that as most of the buildings are constructed of masonary that the Ukrainian firefighter does not have much to do so they sleep alot. However we are learning the services provided by the Ukraine fire and rescue sevice is quickly changing. My guess is that the public perception will soon be much more positive.
